Starvation

Miracle-simulators, burning fat while you sit on the couch, miracle underwear, creating a beautiful figure without your participation, and other ways to quickly lose weight – all this is very captivating losing weight.

One of the most popular ideas is fasting.

Why isn't it helps to create a more slender and beautiful body, and what consequences can lead?

Reverse reaction

One or two "hungry" days a week are considered by many to be a reliable means to reduce weight and to accustom themselves to smaller portions of food, without refusing other days in favorite dishes.

However, this does not work. Instead of destroying fat stores, starvation only spurs their deposition.

The insidiousness of hungry days is that the body reacts to the lack of food intake as stress and immediately reduces the speed of metabolic processes, begins to save energy consumption.

As a result, when returning to normal diet fat begins to accumulate even faster.

Side effect

Often people who try to starve, experience after a day or two without eating a feeling of joy, lightness throughout the body, euphoria. This is a new experience. Of course, they attribute to the ongoing recovery. But in fact, they are caused by the psychoactive effect of ketone bodies on the brain.

These are organic compounds, intermediate products of carbohydrate and fat metabolism. They are formed mainly in the liver with incomplete oxidation of fatty acids as a result of metabolic disorders.

Another consequence of regular fasting is changes in eating behavior. A person begins to be more interested in food on days free from starvation, and sometimes quietly overeating. The result may even be a new weight gain.

If fasting is prolonged

With prolonged fasting, the body begins to eat at the expense of its own tissues, splitting not only fats, but also proteins. The consequence of this are weakened muscles, flabby skin, and sometimes the depletion and development of protein-energy deficiency of varying severity.

Also, the immune system is weakened, more often there are infectious and colds. Reduced immunity increases the risk of developing tumors.

Against the background of prolonged starvation due to acute nutrient deficiency, the endocrine system is disrupted, there are digestive disorders, nervous system disorders, weakening of mental abilities, can even develop infertility.

It is especially hard tolerated starvation for obesity. It leads to frequent convulsions, disorders of consciousness, lower blood pressure and cardiac dysfunction. Therefore, in obesity, weight loss should be carried out under the supervision of a specialist and include a reasonable balanced diet and exercise.

Fasting with a doctor

Previously, medical fasting was prescribed for a number of acute diseases – such as acute appendicitis, gastrointestinal bleeding, with the consequences of severe injuries, accompanied by an unconscious state.

But even such patients intravenously administered solutions of glucose, amino acids, electrolytes in order to provide the body with at least a minimum amount of energy and nutrients.

Now it is unanimously agreed that all patients need a full diet, even in an unconscious state. To this end, developed specialized mixtures, which are composed of a full set of amino acids, easily digestible fats, carbohydrates, and are administered through a probe if the patient is not able to eat on their own.

Things to remember

The body reacts to stressful conditions (which is hunger) mobilization of all resources for survival. In the presence of stocks it is easier to transfer hunger, so fasting does not lead to a decrease in fat, but to its accelerated storage. Remember that a proper, balanced and daily diet will lead to the desired goal faster than painful hungry days.
